Gran Turismo [releasing on August 11, 2023]

Present at the opening night of CinemaCon 2023, David Harbour and Orlando Bloom screened a fresh trailer for Gran Turismo, the movie adaptation of the iconic PlayStation racing game series. Starring Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenborough, a real-life Gran Turismo player who made a name for himself by winning various gaming competitions and eventually becoming a professional race car driver.

The CinemaCon preview showcased a brief scene of Jann enjoying the Gran Turismo game with his buddies online. Djimon Hounsou played his father and made it clear that the dream of becoming a race car driver was not feasible due to the exorbitant cost of race cars.

Moreover, we saw a glimpse of David Harbour’s character, Jack Salter, who is a retired race car driver and does not believe that gaming enthusiasts can compete in the real world of car racing. However, he ends up training Jann and constantly challenges him. Several professional racers Jann encounters also belittle him and deem his aspirations unrealistic.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the lead actor of Kraven the Hunter, conveyed a pre-recorded message to the attendees of CinemaCon 2023, disclosing that the upcoming film would be Sony’s first R-rated Marvel movie. At CinemaCon, Sony Pictures presented 14 minutes of footage from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with the spotlight on a grounded Miles Morales, his parents, and Gwen Stacy.

While the reason for Miles’ grounding remains unclear, the footage depicted him in his room before being interrupted by Gwen Stacy entering through a portal from another dimension. They escape from Miles’ room and traverse through Brooklyn by web-swinging, moments before Miles’ parents walk in and realize he is missing, thus extending his grounding period by another three months.

Gwen and Miles discuss the urgent need to prevent the collapse of multiple dimensions, Gwen’s father, and the risks of their budding romance.

The final sequence takes place at a festival, with Gwen departing, and Miles’ mother arriving to offer comfort and support to Miles, empowering him for the challenges that lie ahead.
